Sri Lankan finance company Sadaharitha Investment (Pvt) Ltd has introduced a scheme to encourage individuals and businesses to invest in planting mahogany on the island.

The company claims that more than 1,000 investors have already signed up to the scheme – Thurusetha – leading to 40,000 trees being planted on more than 150 acres in Ratnaprua, Colombo and Kalutara districts.

The programme aims to promote sustainable mahogany production in Sri Lanka.
