The latest statistics on British timber harvested and used by primary and processing industries in Great Britain have been published by the Forestry Commission.

The main findings are that a total of 7.2 million green tonnes of British timber (roundwood) was delivered to primary wood processors and others in 2002 – 3% down on the previous year.

Deliveries of logs to sawmills accounted for 4.1 million green tonnes – 57% of the total. A further 1.5 million green tonnes – 21% – were delivered to wood-based panel mills and 0.9 million tonnes – 12% – to integrated pulp and paper mjills. Other uses included round fencing and fuel wood.
