DIY television programmes have helped Australian timber group Auspine to a 47.6% rise in annual profits.

The company reported annual net profits of A$14.9m and sales of A$232m, up 10.7%.

It said a substantial rise in demand for outdoor preservation products for the DIY and renovation markets had been partly due to the number of lifestyle television programmes being aired.

Meanwhile, its sales of radiata pine reached record levels during the year and the prefabricated homes division notched up a 16% increase in sales. Woodchip exports, which form a large portion of Auspine’s business, rose by 33%.

The company has also benefited from efficiency improvements at mills.
