The vital importance of ensuring that fire doors are correctly fitted has been underlined by JELD-WEN UK Ltd.

It is making its essential guide on fire doors freely available on the internet at www.jeld-wen.co.uk/fitting instructions.asp or by calling 0870 126 000. The move supports latest updates to the British Woodworking Federation‘s (BWF) Certifire fire door certification scheme.

BWF Certifire Certificate Data Sheets are included with every John Carr Fire Door but JELD-WEN asserts that the biggest potential danger affecting fire door performance is that they are frequently incorrectly fitted.

JELD-WEN technical specialist Martin Ellis said: “After all the investment we make in product developing, testing and refinement, all it takes is for a fire door or doorset to be incorrectly fitted and its certification can become void.

“But it is not the certification that is the important thing – an FD60 door that has been fitted correctly to retain its integrity for 60 minutes will under-perform just because of faulty glazing or improperly applied intumescent seals. And that can ultimately cost lives.”

JELD-WEN offers free tailored training and sessions on fire doors for merchant stockists and its technical team is on hand to answer questions on specification and installation.
