The versatility of American hardwood species will be demonstrated in a television series due to go out to 30 million homes across Europe in October.

Craftsman and designer Paul Bradburn from Bristol will demonstrate how to make simple and stylish furniture in the 15-part programme Cutting Edge Woodworker.

The series has been made with the help of hardwood distributors C Blumsom Ltd and John Boddy Timber Ltd – both of which specialise in American hardwoods – and the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC).

Nick Armon-Jones of C Blumsom, Frank Boddy of John Boddy Timber and David Venables, European director of AHEC, all appear in the series, discussing technical issues with Mr Bradburn.

In each programme Mr Bradburn builds a different piece of furniture using many different American hardwood species, several of which are contrasted with other materials. He also shows different manufacturing processes and talks viewers through from initial sketches to the finished articles.

The series, which will go out on Discovery “Home and Leisure” channel, will be supported by details of suppliers and materials on the website of i2i Television which made the programme.
