Decorative boards producer Lamin 8 Ltd has quadrupled its panel cutting capacity and reduced manual handling following the installation of a Schelling beam saw.

The Wrexham-based company invested in excess of £200,000 in the Schelling FT-h beam saw with vacuum feed to replace two manual saws. Previously, operators had to physically lift heavy boards, which was tiring – especially with the growing amount of overtime necessary to meet orders.

Lamin 8 managing director Stephen Dale praised the machine’s flexibility and capacity to process high volumes or one-offs. He said it has helped the company attract new customers.

The FT-h features the latest saw carriage, clamping and drive design concepts of the Schelling Evolution model, launched at this year’s Ligna.

Features include clamps which open to 270mm; a main 35hp motor; a book height of 150mm; saw carriage with feed speeds of up to 70m/min; and automatic electronic saw adjustment without stopping production.

The infeed conveyor feeds the lift table at the machine’s rear, with a vacuum feeder lifting and counting the boards onto an alignment table. Once the correct number of boards is assembled, boards are automatically fed into the machine for cutting.

Lamin 8’s market includes leading shopfitters, the audio and caravan market, and the cutting trade.
