Forest-based industries across Britain are to benefit from a new range of e-learning materials following an agreement between the Welsh Forest Industries Group (WFIG) and a group of specialist software suppliers.
The agreement will see the development of interactive learning materials available in VHS, CD-ROM and DVD formats, which can also be downloaded from the WFIG website.
The first titles will deal with Skyline operations in environmentally-sensitive areas and with harvester head maintenance and fault recognition, followed by materials on mobile sawmilling, manual handling and hardwood grading.
Peter Harland, chairman of Treeline UK (leading partner of WFIG), said: “We hope this is just the beginning. Forest-based industries in Britain don’t yet have enough e-learning tools to achieve and maintain world class standards.”
Businesses that have signed up to the Joint Development Initiative, a £1.7m industry-led project to raise business performance in companies between the forest and the end user, will have free access to the learning materials.
