Timber frame building contractor Roe Ltd has freed up extra workshop space by purchasing a Striebig Compact vertical panel saw.

Margate-based Roe, which expanded into timber frame from its established brickwork business two years ago, needed to replace a bigger second-hand Striebig Standard model to create space for two additional benches where OSB panels are fixed to lengths of 38mm thick softwood.

The older model had been cutting 5300x2200mm dimensions and took up 6.5m of wall space

The Compact is being used to cut 9mm thick OSB panels – Roe’s preferred material for making house internal and external walls. The panels are purchased in two sizes, 1200mm x 2.4m and 1200mm x 2.7m.

Features of the model installed at Roe’s 15,000ft2 workshop include a 3820mm by 1974mm frame size, with a footprint of only 1135mm, and a TRK extraction system. It also has automatic moving backing support and the option of a scoring saw for high volume laminate cutting.

The company supplies its timber frames to private housing developers, housing associations, contractors and self-builders throughout Kent and the south-east. It is capable of producing 500-plus houses a year and 1,500 timber floors.
