The meaning of the letters PEFC has been changed to reflect the global nature of the organisation’s activities and representation.
Formerly standing for Pan European Forest Certification, the letters now stand for Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes.
The decision to make the change was taken at the 7th PEFC General Assembly held in Luxembourg in October.
At the same event, the Australian forest certification scheme was presented to the PEFC Council to undergo its assessment procedure.
This is the second non-European scheme to be submitted, following the CertforChile national forest certification scheme submitted recently.
Meanwhile Poland’s PEFC Polska has become the 27th independent forest certification scheme to join the PEFC Council.
