A Welsh wood products manufacturer has improved its routing capabilities following the installation of an AXYZ Millennium CNC router.

Janik Ltd, of Ruthin, which claims to be the UK’s largest supplier of pyrography (the decoration of wood with heated tools) wood blanks, tools and equipment, bought the PC-based machine to replace an overhead router after recognising the need for better accuracy and efficiency.

The company is using the Millennium to produce the pyrography blanks, plus wooden components for a diverse range of products, from small hexagonal trinket boxes to table lamps for clients such as Wedgwood and Ernest Jones.

The Millennium features a 1m2 process area, a vacuum bed and a laser digitiser which enables simple shapes to be captured and transferred to a PC for editing and routing.

Janik said the machine allows more complex jobs to be completed than with the previous router, while it is also saving on time, costs and labour.

Prices for the AXYZ range of routers start at £14,800.
