TRADA Technology Ltd has revised its wood information sheet, Fasteners for structural timber: nails, screw, bolts and dowels.

The traditional mechanical fasteners for structural timber are divided into two groups depending on how they transfer the forces between the connected members.

The revised information sheet deals with dowel-type fasteners where the load transfer involves both the bending behaviour of the dowels and the bearing stresses in the timber along the shank of the dowel.

Fasteners such as split rings, shear-plates and punched metal plate fasteners are covered by a further wood information sheet, connecters for structural timber.
