Malaysia’s timber and wood-based product exports in 2003 are expected to outstrip the sector’s 2002 performance.
Primary industries minister Dr Lim Keng Yaik said exports were likely to top the M$15.3bn recorded the previous year. But he said they would still be below the M$17.7bn best-ever performance of 2000.
Dr Lim, speaking at a Malaysian Timber Council-hosted event, said the sector was expected to continue its good performance this year.
