Malaysian integrated timber group BTM Resources Bhd is predicting a return to profit this year.
Managing director Yong Tu Sang said production of window frames and sawn timber was scheduled to rise following shareholder approval of plans to acquire land, plant and machines from BTM Timber Industries Sdn Bhd for M$3m.
He said the group’s factories in Terengganu would be able to double their monthly production of window frames and sawn timber from 858 tonnes to 1,560 tonnes in the next three to four months. A rise in timber prices is also expected to boost profit margin.
The company, which will also acquire a five-storey office building from Sung Lee Timber Trading Sdn Bhd for M$4.5m, exports about 78% of its products, mainly to Australia.
