Unsustainable logging in Uganda means the country will run out of harvestable timber within three years, according to an EU survey.
The EU said timber had been expected to last another decade but a breakdown of discipline in Uganda’s forestry department has led to over-felling of plantations.
The government suspended the issuing of logging licences last October while a timber licensing committee was set up. But the Ministry of the Environment has continued to approve new concessions.
