Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified timber will be used to construct a bandstand for the Salvation Army at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

The timber, from SCA Forest Products’ sawmill at Tunadal and supplied by Buildbase, will feature in the Salvation Army/Buildbase garden entitled “From Darkness to Light”, designed by gold-medal winning designer Julian Dowle.

SCA and FSC-certifier the Soil Association have worked with Buildbase to ensure FSC chain of custody certification in a large proportion of its branches in time for the show.

The bandstand will be of a collapsible design in order to fulfil a key rule of show organiser the Royal Horticultural Society – that component parts of gardens should be recyclable. It will be re-erected at the Salvation Army’s Hadleigh Training Centre, Essex.
