George Owens Joinery has purchased a Weeke CNC machining centre with an extra-length 6.2m bed for tandem loading of workpieces to maximise output.

The company, part of Campbell Construction Group, bought a BHC550 machine for its production of doorsets, windows, staircases, receptions areas and all architectural joinery.

The Weeke, sourced through local supplier Deral Machinery Sales Ltd, was installed at Campbell’s main Glasgow headquarters, where George Owens moved to in April 2003 after becoming part of the group.

The company needed a flexible, automated operation where components can be made in varying batch sizes and to very short lead times.

Jobs carried out on the BHC550 include machining hinge cut-outs, lock slots and fixing apertures in pre-finished doors.

Weeke BHC machining centres are available from about £40,000.
