Weyerhaeuser is offloading three wood product mills, including two plywood plants in the Carolinas acquired through its takeover of Willamette Industries.
The plywood and lumber mill in Chester, South Carolina, employs 330 people and has a capacity to produce 240 million ft2 of plywood and 45 million board feet of lumber annually.
The hardwood plywood mill in Moncure, North Carolina, has a capacity of 115 million ft2 of plywood, primarily for use in furniture production, and employs 200 people.
A lumber mill at Barnesville, Georgia, is the third facility to be put up for sale. It has 80 staff and an annual output of 140 million board feet.
Weyerhaeuser said the facilities were “good mills” but they no longer matched the company’s business strategies.
