Strategies for expanding clear pine markets will be discussed at an international conference in New Zealand this summer.

The June 29-30 event in Nelson will also see the release of a major market analysis of the US clearwood market, featuring key findings on the outlook for clearwood lumber and the US moulding/millwork sector until 2008.

New Zealand’s own industry will be a focus for discussion. The country has some 1.1 million ha of pruned pine or planted forests expected to pruned – 67% of the nation’s planted forest estate.

Other reports will focus on important clear pine producing countries including Chile, Brazil, Australia and Asia. Ken Fenner, chief executive officer of Global Forest Products, one of South Africa’s largest clear pine producers, will also provide an update.

Companies giving presentations include Weyerhaeuser, which manages stands of pruned pine on several continents, and Tenon Ltd, which is developing longer-term strategies for international marketing and distribution of clearwood products.
