The May 21 deadline for entries to this year’s Wood Awards 2004 is fast approaching and the organisers are making one last call for submissions.
Organiser Michael Buckley of Turnstone Communications said that last year 21 building schemes were featured in a 16-page supplement distributed to 55,000 readers of leading architectural and construction magazines. They also appeared all year on a website that received 4,000 hits.
Mr Buckley said: “If you know of a practice, business or professional team that might benefit from this kind of publicity then give us a call.”
Entries are judged on criteria of design, production, installation or commissioning of outstanding examples of joinery and wood structures anywhere in the UK, completed between May 2003 and May 2004.
Mr Buckley said: “This year the short-listed projects in four categories will also be announced and exhibited at 100% Detail at Earl’s Court in September and the final awards will be presented at the Wood Awards reception at Carpenters’ Hall, London in October.
“Every firm involved in the design, production and installation in winning and highly commended entries is also recognised with a certificate at the awards evening.”
There are four award categories – private, public access, conservation and structural – with the Gold Award going to the winner of winners. The Innovation Award recognises technical innovation regardless of category and this year there is an additional award for the best small project.
New sponsors this year include BRE and the Institute of Wood Science and they are all detailed at the awards website, www.woodawards.com
