Roof truss and timber framed building manufacturer Truss2Frame and truss systems specialist Alpine Automation have worked together to pioneer development of a Twin I-Beam.

Truss2Frame was already using Alpine’s system of connector plates in the manufacture of its trusses and timber frames when, a year ago, it saw the potential of the Twin I-Beam.

Through use, the company was able to provide feedback on the beam’s performance in a range of practical applications, enabling Alpine to develop the product further.

The Twin I-Beam employs normal TR26 truss timber so fabricators need not hold large stocks – they can simply make up beams on demand.

The beams, which can span long distances, have built-in rectangular holes through the web enabling easy placement of services such as wiring or piping.

Glenn Watson, managing director of Truss2Frame, said: “Alpine Automation’s Twin I-Beam is probably the best and most flexible product of its type on the market and it makes a very good floor.

“We also like the concept because it allows us to use our own production facilities without modification which gives us complete control over design, manufacture and supply.”
