The British Woodworking Federation (BWF) has signed up its first Fire Door Centre in Wales, just weeks after expansion of the scheme into Northern Ireland.

The Newport branch of Robert Price Builders Merchants put three of its employees through fire door training sponsored by the BWF and the Builders Merchants Federation.

Robert Price’s product manager Mike Lewis said as demand for fire doors and doorsets was already a growing part of the Newport branch, more of its 13 other branches in South Wales could also follow the BWF Fire Door Centre route.

The Welsh breakthrough follows the opening of the first two Fire Door Centres in Northern Ireland by the Brooks Group at its Belfast and Cookstown outlets.

Sharjeel Khawaja, product manager of the BWF-Certifire Fire Door & Doorset Scheme, said: “The larger the network of BWF Approved Fire Door Centre becomes, the more we can build up their reputation as centres of excellence and expertise, where anyone can go to get sound, reliable, knowledgeable advice about fire doors.”
