A Kent furniture manufacturer based at Chatham’s historic dockyard has bought the Hoffman dovetail jointing system to complete a contract fitting out Glasgow jewellery stores.

Hutchfield Furniture, which operates from the original masthouse at Chatham, is using the Hoffman MU2 keyway router for the intricate construction of partioned display trays which fit accurately into special cabinets.

The technology secures precision mitre joints on the corners of the tray frames.

Richard Hutchfield said he originally saw the Hoffman system at a woodworking show and knew, when he won the contract, that it was the technology for the job. He said it was saving significant time and avoiding the need to pin, staple, glue and cramp.
