The second phase of the European Confederation of Woodworking Industries (CEI-Bois) campaign to increase market share for wood and wood based products and solutions in Europe is underway.

It follows the release of a CD-ROM detailing the main results of the “Roadmap 2010 for the European Woodworking Industries” study.

The CD-ROM includes summaries and action plans drawn from work carried out on environmental analyses and wood fibre availability, developments on European and non-European markets, and barriers to the improved use of wood.

The Roadmap results show that the demand forecast for wood products to 2010 falls short of its objective of “wood and wood products becoming the leading material in construction and interior solutions by 2010”, and five processes have been put in place to combat that.

These include “Building with Wood’, “Living with Wood’, “Wood used in Packaging and Transport”, supported by “Wood in sustainable development” and “CEI-Bois consolidation”.

Suggestions made in the “Roadmap” consultation are being incorporated to cover issues such as promotion, research and development, lobbying and training and education.

Phase II will be driven by CEI-Bois members, with the Austrian Wood Industries Association responsible for “Building with Wood” and Spain’s Confemadera for “Living with Wood”.

The European Panel Federation and the European Organisation of the Sawmill Industry have expressed interest in co-leading “Wood in Sustainable Development” and a leader for “Wood used in Packaging and Transport” will be announced shortly.
