Greenpeace has urged Australia, New Zealand and other Pacific nations to tackle illegal logging in discussions on regional security.
The group, which made its appeal ahead of the Pacific Islands Forum on April 6, said the forest industry remains a major driver of corruption, environmental destruction and social instability in Pacific nations.
It is calling on Pacific leaders to develop timber procurement policies which ensure wood products come from sustainably managed forests and impose import restrictions on illegal wood.
