Work has started on the new £1m head office and sales centre of timber importer and supply specialist North Yorkshire Timber in Northallerton.

The 22,000ft2 development is being purpose built on a 1.5-acre site at Northallerton Business Park.

With two floors the building will provide 5,000ft2 of office accommodation, 5,000ft2 of sales area and 12,000ft2 of internal storage. The site also provides a further 22,000ft2 of external storage and parking for 50 customer vehicles.

Completion is due towards the end of the year when the 30 staff from the company’s current head office and sales centre in the town will transfer.

NYT chairman Richard Fawcett said this is the company’s 25th anniversary and added: ” We’ve had a management buy-in and announced our plans to build the business rapidly over the next five years to bring turnover to £15m. With this new development we’re laying the foundations for significant growth beyond that too.”

Managing director Peter Kershaw said: “We are on track to achieve our growth targets and we’re investing right across the company to make sure all our centres meet the increasing demand from both our trade and retail customers.

“In February we opened our 120,000ft2 storage, delivery and fabrication centre near Catterick, and we’re also redeveloping our Sunderland operation, Joseph Thompson Timber, which now has a new showroom and improved collection facilities and we’re currently building new storage and machining facilities there.”
