A contemporary house is being built using Trus Joist TJI joists on an historic garden site on the Isle of Wight.
The two-acre lake and walled garden complex at Old Park are being restored and a new house featuring Trus Joist’s joists, Parallam PSL and TimberStrand LSL is being constructed as part of the project.
Simon Clark, a director of London based ‘eco-architects” Constructive Individuals, said a site-built construction was favoured over a factory-built construction for practical reasons and to save costs.
“We needed framing materials which would be easy to cut on site because the house’s design is very exacting and does not have much tolerance,” he said. “This meant mateials which would not warp, twist or shrink during transport, storage of after installation. We were able to oversize at the specification stage so Trust Joist’s products could be cut exactly to size on site.”
