The English and Danish technical departments of Junckers worked together to develop a quick drying oil for use at Terminal 3’s departure lounge walkway at Heathrow airport.

The company said the project was one of the most technically complex it has undertaken in recent years, with the specification alone taking several months to prepare.

Junckers Oiled Oak was specified for the walkway, which varied in width between 2-6m. It includes two areas of around 160m2 each.

As floor areas could not be closed off for re-lacquering and maintenance could only be carried out between 11pm and 4am, Junckers developed a re-oiling product which would dry in just 30-60 minutes. Branded Top Oil, it has now been added to the Junckers’ portfolio of finishing products.

More than 3,500m2 of Junckers Wideboard Oak was laid, with Junckers Bahrain strips installed every 2m to overcome expansion problems. The 20.5mm thick boards were glued down using Junckers’ parquet glue.
