Visitors to this year’s Woodmex will be able to see mechanical handling equipment demonstrations for the first time in the show’s history.

Fork lift truck and sideloader exhibitors will use their vehicles to move packs of materials and stack them on racking at set times during the October 10-13 show.

The organisers’ decision to move from hall 5 at the Birmingham NEC to halls 17-20 has freed up sufficient space for the demonstrations, as well as providing improved facilities for visitors and exhibitors.

New exhibitors will include suppliers of timber, while there is expected to be “significant” numbers of companies offering mechanical handling and stocking systems.

Exhibition manager John Southam said most of the available stand space was now sold, but bookings were still being taken.

He said: “Woodmex is growing to become the single, comprehensive event for the woodworking industry – making it an essential resource for all types of visitor, from furniture and mouldings manufacturers to merchants and builders.”
