Irish timber frame home manufacturer Century Homes is on track to achieve its 400% growth target in Britain in the next five years with the takeover of Northumberland-based timber frame company, Timber Frame Solutions (TFS).

Century Homes chief executive Gerry McCaughey, described the deal as a major strategic expansion for the company in Britain, and in particular in England. It will give the capacity to produce in excess of 2,500 units direct to the market.

He said the TFS plant in Blyth, near Newcastle, is ideally located to target both England and Scotland, and will complement Century’s existing plant in Tredegar, Wales and its sales and engineering office in London.

Under the terms of the deal, Century has taken over control of TFS from its founding parent group, Pierse Contracting of Dublin.

Strong areas for TFS include the private and social housing markets, and the education and health sectors. The company is also well known for its development of high performance closed panel systems.

Under the new management arrangement, the design, engineering and production systems of the Blyth plant will be integrated to fit into Century Homes’ state of the art automated manufacturing systems and quality standards. All the plant’s products will now bear the Century Homes brand name.

Mr McCaughey said Century will now be able to offer a more comprehensive package to British customers. He added: “We will be using our extra capacity in the market to target major commerical builders with medium and large housing schemes. In addition, we hope to help in the social and urban regeneration of many areas through participation in social and affordable housing schemes.”
