At the centrepiece of a £600,000 investment at Starbank Panel Products is a specially commissioned CNC Homag Baz stationary processor.

Installed in a relatively new area of Starbank’s 60,000ft2 production facility, the new BAZ is a gantry-head designed machine with two individual clamping tables enabling the multi-tool heads to work in tandem or individually.

The tables have been specified to allow extra large panels to be processed and the machine is the largest and first of its type to be installed in the UK. It is controlled with the latest software giving wide scope for individual product designs.

The specification was the result of close consultation with Homag UK’s Dave Gildea and technicians at Homag AG in Germany.

Starbank managing director Philip Darbyshire said the new BAZ gives the company vital capacity in the area of producing and edging shaped components for the office furniture and other special contract markets.

A further 10,000ft2 extension to cope with rapid expansion is planned at the Starbank factory in the near future and early 2005 will see the launch of the new Solid Surfacing division which will offer CNC machined Formica, Corian, Staron, Hi Macs and other branded materials.
