More than 6,000 Weyerhaeuser Medite MDF panels have been used throughout the new £431m Scottish parliament building.

Standard, flame-retardant and moisture-resistant versions were used by Antrim-based joinery manufacturer Mivan in the Edinburgh building.

Scottish MPs in the debating chamber are protected by Medite FR flame-retardant wall panelling, while architectural mouldings, skirtings and architraves are manufactured from Medite 313 moisture resistant MDF.

Mivan also provided joinery and fitting-out for the press tower, as well as two other offices forming part of the Holyrood complex.

The company, which spent two years on the project, had more than 200 staff on site in Edinburgh managing and fitting-out as the building progressed.
