Moulding machine specialist Michael Weinig of Germany has expanded its factory in Yantai, China.

A new extension to the plant, which was originally set up in 1998, has now been opened and output of the site is on target to rise 25% this year to 500 machines, which is estimated to be between 40% and 50% of the total number of moulders sold annually in China. Weinig said that there is also room on the Yantai site for further growth.

The company makes its “lower end” moulders in the Chinese plant and they are largely for the domestic market, but with some exported. However, it insists there are no plans to become an “offshore” manufacturing business, with investment also continuing at its main site in Tauberbischofsheim in Germany. The latest development there is a new customer centre where Weinig will host its in-house exhibition in November.
