Online timber and lumber trading operation TIMBERWeb is to trial and develop a system which will enable its members to talk free over the internet.

The Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) software system will enable TIMBERWeb members to receive calls, provided they are logged on and have downloaded the TIMBERWeb FREEphone from their desktop, and make free outgoing calls if logged into the TIMBERWeb site.

TIMBERWeb chairman and CEO Keith Richmond said the service would provide a large saving to international timber and lumber traders who were racking up large communication bills for themselves or their companies.

“Businesses that are adopting eTrading on the TIMBERWeb eTrader can now not only track all of their offers and requirements through the eTrader, but can talk person to person free of change while on the site.”

Mr Richmond said that anyone who joined TIMBERWeb before the end of November would be able to take part in a six-month free trial of VoIP and added: “They will need broadband internet access and a computer with microphone and speakers.”
