A beach house on windswept Dungeness made of rubber-clad timber and plywood has won an architectural award.
“Vista”, The Rubber Beach House was completed last November as a weekend retreat on the site of a 1930s fishing hut, close to the former home of the late film-maker Derek Jarman.
The timber and boards are covered in a skin similar to material used in wet suits, which is waterproof and breathable.
The prize was given as part of the RIBA award scheme. The judges said it was designed “with wit, style and a great deal of technical skill and ability”.
