The installation of 32 timber roof windows at the property making department of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden has boosted natural lighting levels in the building and raised staff morale.

The Loft Shop Ltd carried out the contract, which was the first major installation of its new 435 window range.

The 1m2 windows, opened by remote control and featuring titanium coloured cladding to blend in with the roof, were installed in the building’s props department, where sets are manufactured.

Anthony Barnett, head of the props department, said the added windows had boosted overall light levels, allowing less dependence on fluorescent lighting.

He added: “The extra natural light has had more than just a beneficial effect on the physical aspect of the department, it has raised morale. Being able to see that the sun is shining has lifted the spirits of us all.”

The 435 range, a centre-pivoting series, comes with Forest Stewardship Council certification.
