In order to consolidate the management of Associated British Ports‘ (ABP) East Anglian Ports, Robert Smith has been appointed port manager for the Ports of Ipswich, King’s Lynn and Lowestoft. Until now, two port managers have served the region, but the three ports have now been united to be run as a single business unit. Mr Smith will remain based at the Port of Ipswich, where he has served as port manager for the past three years. He joined the company in 1971 as a clerk at ABP’s Port of Hull, and has held a number of senior managerial positions before being appointed to his current post.

A newly appointed deputy port manager, Paul Jervis, and a newly appointed assistant port manager, Mike Sellers, will support Mr Smith in the administration of the newly-formed business unit.

Mr Jervis will be predominantly based at the Port of King’s Lynn. He joined ABP in 1985 as a clerk at ABP’s Port of Grimsby, and subsequently held a number of important managerial positions. These include terminal manager for Humber International Terminal at ABP’s Port of Immingham and assistant port manager for ABP Ipswich.

Mr Sellers will now be responsible primarily for the day-to-day administration of the Port of Ipswich and Lowestoft. He joined ABP 12 years ago as a port operative for ABP stevedoring subsidiary Northern Cargo Services, rising to the position of port operations manager for the Port of Lowestoft, a job he held for two years before taking up his new appointment.
