The sustainability work of companies such as Stora Enso and Office Depot will be highlighted at the 2005 ForestLeadership Conference in Toronto.

Other confirmed participants at the March 1-3 event, which is themed “Partnerships Towards Sustainability”, include Hancock Timber Resource Management, WWF and the Nature Conservancy.

The conference will feature 40 speakers from corporations, government agencies, research organisations and others involved in sustainable forestry/responsible products trade. Keynote addresses will be made by Ontario minister of natural resources David Ramsay, US Forest Service chief Dale Bosworth and Pekka Patosaari, director of the UN Forum on Forests.

Focused panels will look at existing partnerships, such as the Ontario Forest Accord and the Boreal Leadership Council, while Weyerhaeuser and Boise will explain their corporate sustainable forestry and social responsibility strategies, as well as multi-stakeholder partnerships they are involved in.

Sessions will also cover the Canadian National Forest Strategy, the Canadian Standards Association/Ontario certification agreement, the new Sustainable Forestry Initiative standards and membership opportunities in the Forest & Biodiversity Conservation Alliance.
