A group of 111 companies in the UK timber products sector is rising fast, recording an average sales growth of 17.8% in 2003, a new market survey reports.

Stockton-based Plimsoll Publishing Ltd says each of the firms has grown by at least three times the average growth (2.3%) in the industry. One company has sales of more than £100m, while 83 firms have sales above £5m.

David Pattison, senior Plimsoll analyst, said: “The UK timber products industry is changing. Many of the up and coming companies are providing different products and value added services. They are doing things a lot differently to the old days.”

Plimsoll also identified the 61 “fastest falling” companies which have seen their sales decline significantly, one by 34%. A total of 32 of the companies have sales above £5m.
