Fast-growing builders merchant group Selco has bought its seventh Striebig Compact vertical panel saw.

The saw has been installed at its new 42,000ft2 Barking branch, together with a Maggi Junior 640 radial arm cross-cut saw.

Selco, which has 10 branches, also intends to add further twin-saw installations at two other existing outlets early in 2005.

Striebig saws are already in place at Selco’s branches at Croydon, Walthamstow, Dudley, Stirchley, Tyseley and Cardiff.

The Compact TRK 4164 is used for cutting MDF, MFC, plywood, chipboard, worktops, door blanks and wooden furrings for roof installations.

It can handle panels to a maximum size of 3100x1644mm and a depth of 60mm. Features include the TRK extraction system, automatic moving back support and the option of a scoring saw for laminates.

The Maggi, which cuts wooden strips, planks and lengths of sawn timber, has a 350mm blade with a 4hp phase motor which cuts to a 100mm depth. Safety features include an adjustable blade guard and a self-braking motor with overload protection.

Selco marketing services co-ordinator Margaret Taggart said: “We offer a panel and timber cutting service at all our branches as an added facility for customers. Both saws are highly versatile and enable us to meet all our customers’ cutting requirements.”

Whetstone-based Blyth Woodworking Machinery supplied the Striebigs, which retail from £8,300-25,000, and the Maggi cross-cuts, which cost from £1,200-3,600. Striebig saws are imported into the UK by sole agent TM Machinery Sales Ltd, of Leicester.
