The first timber has arrived at the new Canfor-LP OSB plant in Fort St John, British Columbia.

The delivery of aspen and cottonwood is the beginning of a stockpiling process in advance of the plant’s commissioning later this year.

Canfor-LP has also signed a contract with Six Nations Ventures, which represents several First Nation groups, to manage the plant’s log yard.

The mill, which will be one of the largest OSB factories in the world, will have an annual capacity of 820 million ft2. Annual wood supply will be about 1.1 million m3 of aspen and cottonwood, creating the need for 150 new jobs and 300 contract harvesting positions.

Canfor-LP plans to advertise 100 maintenance and operations jobs before the end of February.
