The government is to establish an academy in Leeds to help develop new ideas and thinking on sustainable communities.
The Academy of Sustainable Communities will teach regeneration skills and enable people to work in a coherent and farsighted approach to creating and renewing communities.
Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), including the use of timber frame technology, will be debated by the academy in partnership with other bodies. But the government says other organisations are better placed to take a lead in delivering MMC.
The academy, to be supported by a network of regional centres, is a result of Sir John Egan’s review of the skills needed to implement the government’s sustainable communities plan.
Chris Murray, director of learning and development at the Commision for Architecture and the Built Environment, will lead the academy’s start-up as acting chief executive.
