More than 1,200m2 of external cedar cladding has been installed at the English Institute of Sport as part of a £750,000 contract for SH Nicholson Joinery Ltd.

The Featherstone-based company, a member of the British Woodworking Federation, spent six months working on the Sheffield indoor sports arena project, which involved fixing the 150mm wide tongue and groove boards to treated timber battens.

SH Nicholson also supplied Formica-faced wood-based panels at lower levels of the arena to resist impact damage of activities such as basketball. About 5,000m2 of MDF or veneered panelling was fitted in higher areas.

The sports arena, funded by Sport England, provides facilities for the UK’s elite athletes and the wider community.
