The Construction Products Association (CPA) has called on chancellor Gordon Brown to use his pre-election budget to simulate greater investment in the built environment.

CPA president Roy Harrison said Mr Brown’s March 16 budget needs to deliver a business-friendly climate as competitiveness is being eroded by the costs of complying with new regulations, increased energy costs and higher raw material prices.

The CPA has listed eight measures it wants to see introduced, including reform of the Climate Change Levy, a freeze on fuel duty and a 5% VAT rate on all repair, maintenance and improvement work.
