Universal Finishing Systems has supplied a €5m customised finishing line capable of selectively coating different sized wood components.

The technology has been installed at Holland’s largest door manufacturer Kegro Deuren for finishing bespoke hardwood doors.

Kegro, part of the Doorwin group, had needed an intelligent solution with the flexibility to coat selected component sides. Its doors use a tongue and groove fitting which needs a sealer coat to be applied to the interlocking sides to keep out moisture.

Universal’s system, which integrates with the door dimensioning and profiling process, transmits data on incoming profiles to its own control system so the coating machine knows what size it needs to adapt to and which sides to coat.

The system is activated by sensors and uses two edge vacuum coaters and two UV coating stations in which the coating heads move in and out by the required distance.
