The timber industry will present a united statement promoting timber’s environmental case to the new parliament following the general election campaign.
The statement, by the Timber Trade Federation (TTF), British Woodworking Federation, Wood Panel Industries Federation and UK Timber Frame Association, was first suggested at a forum last month organised by the Confederation of Forest Industries and the TTF.
TTF head of public affairs Mark O’Brien said: “Once we’ve agreed the statements, we will approach the new parliament.”
Meanwhile, the Construction Products Association (CPA) has launched its Election Agenda, which highlights policies the construction products industry wants all political parties to commit to in the run-up to the election.
The agenda calls for increased levels of housing provision, removal of red tape, a speedier planning system and revision of the climate change levy and Aggregates Tax.
CPA chief executive Michael Ankers said: “Employing over 650,000 people spread across every parliamentary consituency, the industry is urging parliamentary candidates to support measures that will help deliver much needed improvements to the built and wider environment, and increase the competitiveness of UK business.”
