Scottish forestry minister Lewis Macdonald has helped plant trees for a new native woodland being established by Scottish & Southern Energy.

The company is planting 30,000 trees in Pitlochry on behalf of each of its shareholders who decided to receive communciations via e-mail instead of in paper form.

Several hundred staff also made donations to the Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres in return for native trees being planted to celebrate the lives of loved ones.

The Scottish Executive has granted more than £19,000 towards management of existing woods at the site and creation of the new woodland.
