Tilhill Forestry Ltd has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise after quadrupling its export turnover between 2002 and 2004.
The Stirling-based company, which harvests more than 1.6 million m3 of timber yearly and is part of UPM, won the International Trade 2005 prize.
Managing director Matthew Rivers said: “The Queen’s Award is fantastic news for all our employees, clients and business partners. In recent years we have risen to the challenge of a reduced home market by looking for new openings and opportunities for export.”
By September 2004, 20% of Tilhill‘s traded timber, equivalent to about 5% of all UK wood production, was being exported overseas – much of it to Finland and Norway.
