The Italian woodworking machinery industry experienced an 11.4% dip in orders during the first quarter, a new survey reveals.

Acimall (the Italian woodworking machinery and tools manufacturers’ association) says the industry suffered an 8.5% decrease in export markets and a 19.7% fall within Italy.

The contraction follows an 11.1% dip in the preceding quarter.

Prices grew by more than 1.2% during the first quarter, while average order books extended to 2.5 months.

Acimall said: “Italian woodworking technology manufacturers are extremely uncertain about what is going to happen in the near future. Some of them show some optimisim with respect to the export trend, while others are rather pessimistic about the rally of investments by Italian customers.”
