Wood and aluminium’s combined share of the Irish conservatory, door and window market outstrips that of PVCu, according to the latest version of the Windowbase All Ireland database.

Rochdale-based Windowbase Ltd said while PVCu was still the biggest single material used, as in Britain, the Irish market was less specialised, with many companies installing all three materials.

Windowbase’s Mike Davis said: “There are local companies installing shopfronts, doors and conservatories for both home improvements and commercial markets – all of whom are potential purchasers of a wide range of materials.”

The database shows that just over 50% of Irish fabricators are using wood, while between 30-40% of installers use timber.

More than 40% of fabricators manufacture PVCu products, while more than 70% of installers use plastic. For aluminium the figures are about 30% and 40% respectively.
