Triesse Ltd, an independent producer of cut-to-size wood-based sheet materials and volume veneered board manufacturer, has invested £2.5m in a move to two new sites at Sherburn in Elmet, Leeds.

Founded in the mid-1970s as a panel products stockist, Triesse has grown into a £8m-plus turnover company employing 65 people.

In the 1980s the company moved to a rural site near Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, but the increasing diversity of the business and environmental pressures from local residents forced it to look to redevelop the site and seek alternative premises.

Planning permission to redevelop the site was gained following a public inquiry last year after which the company took the opportunity to restructure the business across its sawing, CNC and veneering operations.

Joint managing director Martin Walkden said: “The board concluded that relocating to new sites nearby at Sherburn in Elmet near Leeds, only a couple of miles from our old site, would maximise our business opportunities.”

Triesse’s head office, CNC facilities and sawing of panel products have moved to a new 40,000ft2 purpose built factory at Sherburn Enterprise Park, while the veneering and laminating operations have moved to a 22,000ft2 leased facility close by at the Maltings.

Joint managing director David Coleman said: “Our relocation provides an excellent base from which we can now meet our customers requirements more efficiently, while still maintaining the personal levels of service and quality that they are used to.”
